Military

The commitment of Commonwealth Psychological Associates, PLC to provide trusted evaluation and care for our citizens who are members of the U.S. government and military has spanned many decades.

As part of our service offerings, we are devoted to military personnel and their families. We are honored to help, and provide services related to difficulties with adjustment to military life, duty assignments, deployment, coping with combat, change of station, losses, and related family issues.

We are highly skilled in the evaluation of traumatic brain injury (TBI) from all sources, as well as PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and the strategies for psychological rehabilitation. We are fully versed in the needs of all deployment cycles spanning adjustment to military life through to adjustment in post-deployment requiring reintegration into the family and renegotiating routines. Some military families and their children are coping with relatively shorter deployments but those facing longer multiple deployments, reassignment, and frequent relocation often experience significantly higher levels of stress affecting long-term health and emotional functioning, which in turn can produce marital conflict, behavioral problems, academic performance issues, anxiety, depression, anger, sleep difficulties and related family issues.

Individual psychotherapy
can help with many of these symptoms, especially depression and anxiety. Marital and family counseling can be very effective in building conflict resolution skills and improving communication. Our short-term group therapy program can provide stability for improved anger management and improved relationships at home and work as well. Our short-term cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) program for crisis intervention can produce rapid turn-around in teens and children experiencing problem behaviors and can provide highly effective strategies for parents.

Your care begins with a confidential phone interview at no cost. First, we listen. Then subsequent in-office consultation is offered at reduced cost for members of our military and their families. Contact us at (703) 734-0787.

We want you to know that we're here.
